Poor Blood Circulation
When we think about poor blood circulation, we might only sometimes consider how it affects our balance. However, poor circulation can lead to many problems, including dizziness and loss of balance.
When one has poor circulation, the body isn’t getting the oxygen it needs to function correctly. This can lead to lightheadedness and dizziness, contributing to losing balance. Also, poor circulation can cause side effects like muscle cramps and fatigue, making it challenging to maintain your balance.
One of the more serious ways poor circulation can cause loss of balance is by damaging the nerves that control balance. When these nerves are damaged, they may not be able to send the signals they need to keep one balanced. This type of nerve damage is often seen in patients with diabetes and stroke.
You can do a few things to improve your circulation and help prevent dizziness and loss of balance. Exercise helps to get the blood flowing and strengthen the muscles that help maintain balance. Avoiding sitting or standing in one position for too long and taking frequent breaks to move around and stretch the muscles help.
