Dark Urine Color
Dark urine color is often a symptom of liver disease. This is because the liver produces bile and then stores it in the gallbladder before releasing it into the small intestine to aid fat digestion. When the liver becomes damaged, it cannot produce enough bile, putting a strain on the body to process fats without assistance. Without enough bile, a person’s urine will turn a darker-than-normal yellow or brown color due to excess bilirubin.
In some cases, dark urine may also indicate an internal bleed within the body; however, this occurrence is rare in people with healthy livers and would more likely be seen with other symptoms like abdominal pain and nosebleeds.
Various factors can damage the liver, from heavy alcohol abuse to chronic illness and genetics. Anyone with symptoms that suggest they could have liver disease should consult their physician immediately to receive treatment and possibly save their life before any further damage is done.
