Early Signs Of Liver Disease: 13 Symptoms

Abdominal Pain

The liver, located in the upper right quadrant of the abdomen, is the largest organ in the human body. It is responsible for many functions in the body, such as processing nutrients, removing toxins from the blood, and storing vitamins and minerals. When something goes wrong with the liver, it can cause several symptoms that can be mistaken for other ailments.

Abdominal pain may indicate a problem with the liver. You may feel pain in another area of the abdomen due to inflammation caused by cirrhosis or scarring of the liver. This abdominal pain is known as “referred” because it’s not coming from where it feels like it’s coming from. The most common location for this pain is under the right rib cage on the lower right side.

The most common causes of abdominal pain are gallstones, constipation, appendicitis, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), kidney stones, and stomach flu (gastroenteritis). Of these causes, only gallstones are related to liver disease specifically. Gallstones are clusters of cholesterol that form inside bile ducts within the liver.
