Loss of Sex Drive
Liver disease can be hard to detect early on because it often has no noticeable symptoms. However, when you experience loss of sex drive in conjunction with other symptoms, you can know that your liver is in trouble.
The liver produces a hormone called testosterone, which plays a major role in sexual desire and arousal. Therefore, if you experience loss of appetite, fatigue, nausea, or jaundice alongside a loss of sex drive, you may have an issue with your liver. Often these symptoms are accompanied by an enlarged spleen and a loss of body hair.
Research by Dr. Pranav Pancholi and his team at the University of California found that testosterone levels were reduced in men with liver disease. This is due to a reduction in the production of cholesterol by the liver during a malfunction. Cholesterol is needed to produce testosterone, so without it, your sex drive will be affected negatively.
If you’re experiencing trouble with your sex drive, talk to your doctor. Early treatment might help prevent further damage to the organ and eliminate the need for surgery before it’s too late.
