Myasthenia Gravis
Myasthenia Gravis (MG) is a condition where the body starts to experience weakness in the skeletal muscles. One of the most common symptoms of MG is a weakness in the limbs, such as the arms and feet. You could also have trouble speaking or difficulty chewing/swallowing. MG is a condition that can affect just about any age, but it’s far more common for men over the age of 60 and for women over the age of 40. The unfortunate thing about MG is the lack of a cure, but it doesn’t mean there’s no way to manage the symptoms.
Those who catch the condition early have a much better chance of slowing down the overall progression, ensuring the quality of life is not hampered. The treatment for MG usually includes a variety of lifestyle change, as well as medications and potential surgery, depending on the situation. Muscle weakness is common for those with MG, so most treatment involves trying to get strength back in the skeletal muscles. It’s a long and involved process, but it’s well worth the effort as it improves the quality of life.
