What Causes Lazy Eye? 13 Causes To Consider

Corneal Opacity

Corneal opacity due to infectious ocular surface disease may result in amblyopia because of the blockage of proper visual stimulation and blunting of visual pathway development in the weak eye. This condition occurs in the presence of corneal scarring, which makes the cornea appear white or cloudy. In addition, since there is a restricted passage of light through the cornea, individuals with lazy eye may also report redness, light sensitivity, and loss of vision.

Corneal capacity causes include injury, infectious diseases such as herpes and conjunctivitis, and vitamin A deficiency. The extended use of contact lenses may also result in corneal opacity.

Treatment for corneal capacity will depend on the cause and severity of corneal scarring. Doctors usually prescribe steroidal eye drops, oral medications, and antibiotics to treat the condition. In severe corneal capacity, eye muscle surgery may be the only course of treatment. During the surgery, eye muscles may be loosened or tightened to allow the dominant eye to work in symmetry with the weak eye.
