Blood in Urine
A patient’s urine may reveal several health issues, such as renal failure. Gross hematuria occurs when there is apparent blood in the urine. The condition is known as microscopic hematuria when blood is present in the urine but can only be seen under a microscope. A typical sign of glomerulonephritis, an inflammation of the kidney’s filtration mechanisms, is microscopic urine bleeding. Severe complications of glomerulonephritis may lead to acute kidney failure and a sudden rapid loss of renal function due to infection. IgA nephropathy, an immunological disorder that affects the tiny blood vessels in the kidneys responsible for filtering blood, is one possible cause of glomerulonephritis.
When the kidneys filter wastes from the blood to produce urine, healthy kidneys usually maintain the blood cells within the body. However, when the kidneys’ filters are impaired due to kidney failure, the blood cells might begin to leak out into the urine. Aside from that, urine color becomes a deeper shade of brown, red, or purple due to the accumulation and concentration of chemicals as kidney function declines. On the other hand, although foam is not a color, its occurrence alongside blood in urine may indicate that the kidney is not working properly.
