15 Common Signs Of Iodine Deficiency You Shouldn’t Ignore (List)

Thickened Skin

Thickened skin is a common symptom of hypothyroidism and iodine deficiency. It most often manifests as thick, rough patches on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet. A person may also notice coarse hair growth in these areas.

If they are experiencing thickened skin with no other symptoms, it could be caused by any number of things. These include dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema (all inflammatory conditions), or even just a reaction to something they applied on the skin, like lotion or sunscreen. Thickened skin can also result from hormonal changes due to fertility treatments like Clomid® and Metformin® (increased progesterone levels).
