Protects Against Dementia
Dementia refers to symptoms associated with cognitive declines, like forgetfulness. It’s generally used to describe conditions affecting memory, thinking, and communication. Although the risk of developing it increases as you grow old, it isn’t usually a part of the aging process. Some common causes and types of dementia are Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, Lewy body, frontotemporal dementia, and mixed dementia.
The condition’s symptoms vary depending on the person and the dementia type they have. However, they usually include memory problems, difficulties in understanding or finding words, asking similar questions repeatedly, inability to deal with numbers, withdrawal and anxiety, mood changes, personality changes, sleep disturbances, and obsessive tendencies. Over time, these symptoms often increase in severity.
Specific conditions like Alzheimer’s can be triggered by the brain cells’ and neurons’ progressive death. It’s also possible for the onset of dementia to begin from brain tumors, stroke, drug abuse, some infections, vitamin E or B12 deficiency, and genetic factors. There currently isn’t a cure for dementia, but there are medications that can ease its symptoms. In addition, healthy habits and practices like exercising and using the sauna may help protect against the condition, but further research is needed.
