Lowers Blood Pressure
Many consider hypertension or elevated blood pressure a silent killer, and for a good reason. The condition typically doesn’t present noticeable symptoms until complications like a stroke or heart attack occur. Unfortunately, it’s among some of the most common causes of mortality, especially in the US. Blood pressure is generally determined by how much the heart pumps. And the resistance to its flow in the arteries. The narrower the arteries are, the greater the chances of getting hypertension.
While having elevated blood pressure can lead to various medical conditions, it’s also possible to make immediate changes to it and lower the risk of developing diseases. For example, taking up an exercise program can significantly reduce blood pressure. In one study, sedentary adults who had engaged in aerobic exercise were able to lower their blood pressure by under five percent diastolic and almost four percent systolic. Even walking or playing sports can yield immediate results.
Aside from exercising, you can maintain healthy blood pressure by eating right, shedding excess pounds, and going to the sauna occasionally. Quitting smoking, managing your stress levels, eating dark chocolate, eating garlic, taking garlic supplements, and getting enough rest can also help.
