Turmeric
Turmeric is also known as Indian saffron or golden spice due to its flavor and color. Its popularity is not only in sauces and the kitchen; it is also used as a medicine because of its medicinal benefits. Nowadays, turmeric is available in various forms, such as capsules, teas, powders, and extracts which are proven effective against different health problems.
Turmeric’s active ingredient is curcumin. In Ayurvedic medicine, curcumin has potent biological properties. It can be used to treat inflammation and pain relief. In treating impetigo, turmeric can reduce inflammation and lessen its symptoms. Curcumin inhibits the growth of bacteria. Study shows that Staphylococcus and Streptococcus are highly susceptible to curcumin. Curcumin is also effective against multi-drug-resistant bacteria. It can fight back infections that antibiotics cannot.
To use turmeric as a remedy, apply turmeric powder directly to the sores and infected areas. Mixing it with water to produce a paste-like mixture is also effective. Do this once or twice per day for optimal results. Researchers suggested that turmeric can also be taken orally. Increasing the amount of turmeric intake every day can decrease inflammation.
