Vomiting
When a person experiences IBS, one of the symptoms is the forcible throwing up or emptying of the stomach contents. Vomiting as part of the presentation for IBS can be due to the imbalance in the gastric flora and irritation of the stomach and intestine walls due to allergies and other similar substances.
The stomach and the gastrointestinal tract are pretty sensitive organs. When a foreign contaminant, such as bacteria, upsets the balance of the GI flora, it can lead to inflammation and infection, resulting in vomiting. A person vomits when the stomach becomes agitated, and the muscle contractions push the stomach contents back up the esophageal sphincter.
When an individual experiences episodic vomiting, they must avoid solid foods for at least 24 hours. They must instead ingest electrolyte-rich liquids such as sports drinks and oral rehydration solutions to prevent dehydration. After that, they can eat soft and bland food such as crackers, clear broth, dry toast, white rice, and porridge to continue their nourishment. They can also try drinking lemonade and ginger or mint teas to help soothe the GI tract.
Some research also says that aromatherapy can relieve nausea and vomiting. They can try essential oils such as lavender, chamomile, lemon, ginger, and peppermint.
