Irritability
Irritability is an overwhelming feeling of agitation which leads to annoyance, anger, and impatience. People who experience irritability tend to become frustrated and upset quite easily. They don’t seem to have complete control of their mental faculties, which leads to outbursts. Irritability can be caused by stress, anxiety, or depression, but it can also stem from sleep deprivation, low blood sugar levels, and alcoholism.
The decrease in blood sugar levels affects the brain and other organs of people undergoing hypoglycemia. Once the brain doesn’t have enough blood glucose supply, it can go haywire due to the lack of nourishment. Glucose is one of the substances that keeps the brain functioning properly. If it doesn’t get enough sustenance, it begins to function differently. A drop or a sudden increase in blood glucose can lead to such symptoms manifesting.
Among the best things people with hypoglycemia can do to prevent irritability is to have high-carbohydrate snacks handy. Once people feel that they’re beginning to be irritable, they must snack on gummy candies, dried fruits, cookies, or pretzels to normalize their blood glucose. They must also avoid drinking alcohol without eating first to prevent a sudden drop in glucose levels.
