Aloe Vera
Another alternative hyperpigmentation treatment is aloe vera. The succulent provides a variety of benefits for the skin. It can remove dead skin cells and helps regenerate new ones. Aloe vera is used as an exfoliating agent by eliminating the dark spots on the skin.
Aloe vera contains the substances aloin and aloesin. Aloin is a natural compound that has been shown to lighten skin tone. In addition, research has shown that aloin is effective as a hyperpigmentation treatment because it can soothe and reverse the damage of UV rays in the skin. Aloesin, meanwhile, is a chromone derivative that counts among its effects wound and burn healing properties, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and immunomodulatory properties that can inhibit melanin formation due to UV radiation exposure.
Dermatologists recommend using pure aloe vera gel to control and reverse the effects of hyperpigmentation. They also suggest applying the aloe vera gel topically before bedtime and letting it dry on the skin overnight, and rinsing off the gel using warm water in the morning. The process is repeated until an improvement in the skin tone and complexion is seen. It can take several weeks to have noticeable improvement, though, as the DIY treatment can be affected by several outside factors.
