Clove Oil
Clove oil is an aromatic extract from cloves, usually used to add flavor to foods. Aside from this, it has also been used to remedy respiratory conditions, tooth problems, and digestive issues. It is also a painkiller because its active compounds can temporarily numb the nerves. Clove oil is used in modern medicine, especially in dentistry, as a pain reliever and antiseptic. Moreover, recent studies have explored the potential of clove oil in other branches of medicine. Experts found out that it can be a viable treatment for oral thrush.
Eugenol, an active ingredient in clove oil, is believed to be effective against fungi. A team of scientists in 2005 proved this claim. They tested the effectiveness of clove oil against thrush infection in immunosuppressed mice. The results are impressive, and they concluded that clove oil is similarly effective as other antifungal drugs.
Clove oil is used as a supplementary supplement or mouth rinse. Proper consultation with a medical provider is advised to avoid complications. It can be used as a mouthwash by steeping a grounded clove in a cup of boiling water for five minutes, then straining the mixture.
