Lemon Juice
Lemon is a kind of citrus fruit loaded with soluble fiber, and vitamin C. Lemon’s plant compounds give it several health benefits. It has been used in alternative medicine as a natural remedy for kidney stones, cancer, anemia, digestive issues, scurvy, high blood pressure, and respiratory disorders. Moreover, lemon has antiseptic, antioxidant, and antifungal properties, making it effective against infections like thrush.
Anecdotal evidence claims that lemon juice is an effective treatment for oral thrush. Several small-scale studies back up this claim. For example, a study conducted in 2008 showed that lemon juice and lemon grass concoction could actively fight off Candida albicans. Another study concluded that lemon is an effective remedy for oral thrush among patients with AIDS and HIV.
Lemon juice can be applied directly to thrush lesions. However, this method has been proven to cause skin irritation and a burning sensation due to the lemon juice’s high acidity. This is why experts advise patients to mix a cup of pure lemon juice with water. Use the mixture as a mouthwash or drink it like lemonade. Refrain from adding sugar to the lemon juice since sugar is the primary food of Candida albicans.
