Cold Packs
One of the most common ways to treat the flu is to relieve the symptoms with a cold compress. Ice or another cold compress can help treat many flu symptoms, from fever and nausea to body aches and sore throat. Ice can also relieve swelling in the muscles and joints, which is often a source of pain for those with the flu.
You can either purchase one or make one at home. Simply place a wet washcloth in the freezer until it’s frozen solid, then wrap it in a towel and apply it to the affected area.
To ensure that you don’t lower your body temperature too much while using this treatment, keep dry socks or slippers nearby to change into them when the cold pack loses its chill before putting it back on. If you don’t have either of these things on hand, simply moving around for a few minutes will get some blood flowing through your body again, which will help you to feel warmer. If you have the flu and are experiencing severe pain or swelling in your joints, you must seek medical attention immediately.
