Coconut Oil Pulling
Oil pulling is a technique used by millions of people worldwide to treat oral-related issues like tonsillitis, tonsil stones, bad breath, tooth decay, and tooth discoloration. This technique is done by swishing (not swallowing) an essential oil with medicinal properties that can help treat a person’s condition. For instance, patients who want to whiten their teeth can use coconut oil.
Coconut oil has antibacterial properties that are effective against the bacteria and plaque attached to the teeth. Always shop for natural and pure coconut oil because it is more effective, safer, and doesn’t contain harmful chemicals. To use it, swish the oil inside the mouth for 10 to 30 minutes. Then, spit out the oil before rinsing the mouth with clean water. Experts remind patients not to swallow the oil used after oil pulling since it contains harmful bacteria and plaque from the teeth.
Further studies are still needed to verify the effectiveness of this technique. But experts see no harm in doing this.
