Pineapple
Pineapple is a tropical fruit with aromatic edible yellow flesh, tough segmented skin and topped with stiff leaves. However, the said fruit isn’t just a simple fruit eaten as a dessert by many. Pineapple provides lots of nutrients the body needs. Its acid contains vitamin C, which helps the body tissue to grow and boosts our immune system. Also, this fruit provides fiber and vitamin B and has various health benefits, such as antioxidants and anti-cancer properties, which cause the body to work well. Surprisingly, pineapple also contains enzymes that work as a plaque remover.
The citric acid and d-limonene compounds found in pineapples are scientifically proven to fight off plaque buildup in the teeth. Although there is insufficient evidence to prove its direct relationship with whitening teeth, many anecdotal reports and small-scale claim its effectiveness. For instance, a study in 2017 tested the potential of citric fruits (including pineapple) in reducing teeth discoloration, and the results are impressive.
However, experts warn patients not to overuse this method since citric acid can cause enamel erosion.
