Compression Socks
Compression socks or ace wraps are everyday staples in the medical kits of athletic doctors who regularly encounter swelling and injuries in the extremities. Regardless of the reasons for the swollen feet, compression socks work wonders in helping fluid from accumulating in the legs and from forming blood clots.
Much like how a hug makes one feel better, the gentle squeeze that compression socks offer also works well in providing relief from pain. The socks help push the blood flow up the leg, which is excellent in healing inflammation and promoting oxygen circulation. It also helps limit the veins’ ability to expand, making it easier for damaged skin to receive oxygen.
Compression socks are designed to be worn for a long time, but it’s still best to start with lightweight ones and progress as needed. It is available in a wide range of weights and compressions—from 12mm to 15mm, or 15mm to 20mm of mercury, and can be bought from any local drugstore, pharmacies, shoe retailers, grocery stores, or online shops.
