Menthol Shaving Cream
While there isn’t any conclusive evidence that shaving cream with menthol does wonders for sunburned skin, a woman’s post about it being so has gone viral, prompting studies about it. One such study proved that the menthol in menthol shaving creams could stimulate the receptor channels and desensitize the skin resulting in short-term, local pain relief.
Shaving creams have hydrating and soothing properties to help prepare the skin and hair for shaving. Shaving cream with menthol also has cooling and anti-inflammatory properties, making it the perfect balm to soothe mild sunburn. For sunburn relief, a thin layer of menthol shaving cream can be applied to the affected area, dried out for 30 minutes, and rinsed.
A note of caution: According to some experts, while the menthol component of menthol shaving creams may temporarily decrease pain, using shaving cream alone may cause more irritation due to the ingredients contained in it as a surfactant, soap, and fragrance.
