Cucumber
Cucumber is a fruit well-featured in many beauty products, thanks to its rich water content and antioxidant and analgesic properties. It’s a nutritious fruit with many health benefits when consumed, but people have also used it as a balm for the skin since ancient times.
Cucumbers contain vitamin C and caffeic acid, ingredients that help cool inflamed or irritated skin. It also contains potassium, sulfate, and vitamin A, which help soothe sunburns. Moreover, cucumber has antioxidant ingredients, giving them hydrating and anti-aging benefits, which helps relieve sunburn.
Using cucumber as sunburn relief can be done in several ways. An example is using thinly-sliced cucumber or going for a “smooth consistency” by either mashing it up or blending it into a paste. However, the cooling properties of the fruit remain, regardless of how it is used, so it should still be an extremely effective sunburn relief, especially when chilled. Just make sure to keep it on the skin for at most 15 minutes before applying a moisturizer to keep the coolness and constrict the capillaries, easing the inflammation.
