Yogurt
Yet another well-known sunburn relief is yogurt. A study from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) found that Lactobacillus johnsonii and the carotenoids contained in yogurt help cool and hydrate the skin, resulting in reduced damage caused by UV rays.
Any yogurt can ease sunburn pain. However, experts recommend using Greek yogurt because it has been strained more times than traditional yogurt. Moreover, the topical application of probiotics decreases skin sensitivity and redness.
The lactic acid contained in yogurt also works well as an exfoliant and reduces the appearance of blisters. It is particularly useful in treating damaged skin barriers. Thanks to the high levels of natural probiotics and antimicrobial properties in yogurt, the harmful bacteria on the skin are reduced, restoring healthy skin microbiomes.
To relieve sunburn, using yogurt, take some plain or Greek yogurt, smooth it directly to the affected area, and leave it on for 15 minutes. The treatment is recommended every two to four hours or as needed.
