Warm Tea Bag
A heated tea bag may be used as a compress instead of a warm washcloth. Black tea reduces swelling and acts as a mild antimicrobial. The strong tannin content of black tea makes it effective in lessening inflammation and irritation because of its antibacterial and analgesic effects. Using this compress twice a day can alleviate the discomfort and pain caused by the stye.
Green teabags may be used in place of traditional heat compresses to hasten the healing process. Green tea’s anti-inflammatory and antibacterial characteristics make it a perfect complement to the hot water compress in treating skin irritations and minor wounds. The stye may be treated by applying a teabag compress to the affected area for at least 10 minutes many times a day.
There is some anecdotal evidence that chamomile tea might calm sensitive skin and promote the healing of wounds and inflammation, but further research is needed. Fill a cup with hot water and a tea bag and leave for a minute to steep. To use, wait until the tea bag has cooled sufficiently to lay over the eye, and then do so for 5-10 minutes. Use a different tea bag on each eye for best results if both have a stye infection.
