Honey
Honey has different medicinal properties that aid in getting rid of a stuffy nose. Honey is mainly seen as a sweetener for drinks, particularly tea. It has some antimicrobial properties, making it a great additive to treat the common cold. On top of that, honey not only relieves symptoms of a stuffy nose but also prevents it from occurring. Honey also helps deal with mucus by acting as a demulcent, meaning it helps break down mucus, making it easier to expel. Generally, dark honey is better compared to its lighter counterpart because darker honey has much better antibacterial properties.
Children under the age of one should avoid the consumption of honey since it might be the cause of the development of botulism. It also contains sugar which is very concerning for people with diabetes, and it can cause the sugar level to drastically rise. Typically, too much honey causes weight gain because of this, but on rare occasions, honey may contain toxins that can have a variety of effects. Some of these include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and weakness. In some cases, it might cause fainting, arrhythmias, and shock. All these can be prevented if honey is consumed in moderation.
