Compression
Compressions can help relieve sinus infections by decreasing the pressure against the sinuses. With a sinus infection, the walls of the sinuses get inflamed and swollen. This inflammation restricts the ability of the sinus to drain properly, which leads to a build-up of thickened mucus. This causes abnormal pressure on the inside of the nose and cheeks, which increases pain and discomfort.
You can use compression to relieve this pressure by helping drain the thickened mucus through the nose. This is done by placing a clean cold compress under your eyes, both cheeks, and your nose. Be sure you are not pressing only a little bit of pressure on any part of your face.
The best time to apply compression is when you have just woken up in the morning and before you sleep at night.
