Quercetin
Quercetin is a flavonoid that is naturally present in many plants and grains. It has an antioxidant effect on the human body. In addition, quercetin supports the immune system by boosting the production of white blood cells to fight infections like bacteria, viruses, and fungi.
Quercetin is found naturally in many fruits, vegetables, and herbs. In particular, it is found in apples, onions, tea, and red wine. The most effective way to improve your immune system and stop allergies is to eliminate the trigger for this condition (such as pollen) or to reduce the symptoms (by taking antihistamines).
A study published in the British Medical Journal in 1998 showed that a combination of quercetin and vitamin C reduced the severity of colds if taken early enough. In a study conducted at Auburn University, researchers found that quercetin inhibits the migration of leukocytes, which are white blood cells that cause inflammation during infections. This natural anti-inflammatory effect and antioxidant properties make quercetin effective in treating sinus infections because it clears out mucus and reduces swelling in sinus membranes.
