Gentian Scabra
Gentian scabra is a bitter herb used traditionally to treat various digestive disorders. The root of the plant is dried and powdered and can be taken orally or topically. It is thought that the bitter taste of Gentian scabra stimulates the release of digestive juices and enzymes, which helps to improve digestion.
Gentian scabra roots contain various antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and immune-boosting compounds. These properties make it effective in treating shingles by reducing pain, inflammation, and redness while also helping to boost the immune system. One of the most active compounds in Gentian scabra is called gentiopicrin. Gentiopicrin has been shown to have potent antiviral activity against the varicella-zoster virus, which causes shingles.
In one study, researchers found that patients who took a Gentian scabra supplement reported a significant reduction in pain compared to those who took a placebo. The study also found that Gentian scabra was well tolerated and had no serious side effects. Topical application of Gentian scabra may also help to speed up wound healing of shingles scars by promoting collagen production and inhibiting bacterial growth.
