Diet Modification
If a patient is frequently experiencing nausea without apparent reason, this may be the body’s way of saying something is not right inside it. One of the leading causes of long-term and recurring nausea is poor diet. Patients should consult a doctor, nutritionist, or dietician before committing to any new diet, especially if they have existing health conditions. However, there are simple ways to make a diet more helpful in alleviating or preventing nausea.
Patients must avoid spicy and fatty foods like french fries, spicy noodles, and burgers. Instead, add bland foods like applesauce, potatoes, bananas, and crackers. These foods are proven effective in preventing digestive problems like indigestion, diarrhea, and IBS, which may all lead to nausea. Adding protein to a person’s diet can also be a big help. Protein-rich foods are skim milk, yogurt, eggs, cheese, beans, and white meat.
Experts also advise patients to avoid eating large meals. Instead, more frequent light meals are recommended to reduce acid reflux, vomiting, and nausea. Drinking water or fluids during meals is also not recommended since it can trigger or worsen nausea.
