Acupuncture or Acupressure
Acupuncture and acupressure are traditional Chinese practices to alleviate abdominal pain, headaches, nausea, vomiting, and other ailments. The Chinese have been using and developing these practices for thousands of years. Both techniques stimulate the nerves and trigger the brain to perform a specific function. They have the same goal and almost the same concept, the only difference is that acupuncture uses needles while acupressure uses pressure.
Scientific data now support these traditional practices. For instance, a recent study shows that acupuncture reduces the chances of developing post-operational nausea by about 87 percent. In addition, more positive results were shown in a survey among cancer patients who received acupressure after a chemotherapy session. The study shows that 73% of patients experienced milder nausea than in previous sessions.
It is not safe to try acupuncture and acupressure without consulting an expert. However, patients may try stimulating the Neiguan acupuncture point to lessen nausea and dizziness. For example, they can place their thumb down their inner wrist and gently put pressure on the area for one minute. Then, do the same process on the other arm. Repeat the process as needed.
