Peppermint Essence
Peppermint essence is a home remedy used to treat head lice. It is not a common ingredient in lice treatment products, but it is available at health food stores and online. This element helps to eliminate the lice by causing them to dry up and die. The active ingredient of peppermint oil is menthol, which acts as an irritant to the skin and mucous membranes of lice. In addition, menthol affects their breathing, inducing constriction of their spiracles, the openings where air enters and exits the body through the tracheae. This will cause the lice to suffocate.
When using peppermint essence to treat head lice, you can either apply it directly onto the hair or use it as a base for other treatments. You can also add it to the shampoo or conditioner before washing their hair. Some people recommend mixing peppermint essence with olive or coconut oil for better results.
