PEACE And LOVE
Most athletes have probably heard the term “RICE” whenever experiencing any injury. This acronym means “rest, ice, compress, and elevate.” It has been used to treat injuries for quite some time now. However, the latest protocol is to follow “PEACE” and “LOVE” or “protect, elevate, avoid NSAIDs, compress, educate” and “load, optimism, vascularisation, and exercise.”
This new method offers a more active approach to recovery to help make sure that incidents like this don’t happen again.
PEACE means one must protect the injured area for 1-3 days. While recovering, elevate the affected leg above the heart to reduce swelling. Avoid NSAIDs unless the pain is unbearable. Compress the affected area. Educate people on what to do and how to prevent injuries.
After finishing PEACE, LOVE is needed to recover from a leg cramp fully. Load the muscle affected with movements and exercises to strengthen it. Have an optimistic outlook on recovery. After a few days, once the pain is no longer felt, vascularization through aerobic exercises is recommended to boost blood flow in the previously injured area. Finally, continuous exercise in the affected area will help prevent the injury from happening again.
