Sesame Oil
Sesame oil (Sesamum indicum) is dubbed to be the “Queen of Oilseeds” due to its high nutrient content. Sesame oil is extracted by pressing raw sesame seeds and used for pharmaceutical and culinary purposes. It has been used for millennia as a natural pain reliever.
Sesame oil is high in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory qualities. In particular, sesamol and sesaminol, two antioxidants in sesame oil, have significant benefits in back pain and arthritis. In studies, antioxidant activity was boosted by sesame oil. When used topically, it inhibits free radical-generating substances like xanthine oxidase and nitric oxide. This mechanism might help prevent cell damage.
Sesame oil’s anti-inflammatory effects have made it a staple in traditional Taiwanese medicine, where it is often used to treat various ailments, including swollen joints, toothaches, and scrapes. Experiments show that markers of oxidative stress and arthritic symptoms, such as joint discomfort, can be reduced.
Similarly, research indicated that an arthritic lotion containing sesame could significantly reduce pain and stiffness in patients.
To apply topically, warm up some sesame seed oil and massage it into the aching joints to alleviate the discomfort. A warm sesame oil massage may help you build stronger muscles and bones, which in turn reduces your risk of experiencing joint and muscular discomfort.
