Selenium Sulfide
Selenium sulfide is effective against the fungus that causes seborrheic dermatitis or dandruff. The product inhibits the proliferation of scalp yeast and calms irritation and scratching. It is available in shampoo and lotion form, over the counter, or as prescribed by a physician. It should be taken twice weekly for the first two weeks, then once weekly for up to a month in treating seborrheic dermatitis. When utilizing a commercially available product containing selenium sulfide, be careful to read and adhere to all label directions. If it causes irritation or the symptoms worsen, then discontinue using it.
It is recommended to saturate the area with water thoroughly. Put the diluted selenium sulfide on the wet scalp and massage for at most three minutes before rinsing thoroughly. A second application can be necessary, depending on the instructions on the label. Rarely, this chemical might cause hyperpigmentation in certain people. Washing the hands after using selenium sulfide is important to avoid any irritation. Only use it depending on the prescribed frequency; don’t keep it on the hair, skin, or scalp longer than recommended.
