Baking Soda and Olive Oil
Olive oil is extracted from olives and has long been associated with Mediterranean cuisine. Research has shown that it is an excellent source of antioxidants. Monounsaturated fatty acids are the predominant fat in olive oil that helps with inflammation. The moisturizing, exfoliating, and anti-fungal characteristics of baking soda and olive oil are effective treatments for dandruff.
Olive oil is known to hydrate the skin, while baking soda is known to have antibacterial and anti-fungal qualities. Therefore, incorporating both active ingredients can help exfoliate the scalp without stripping too much oil and moisture. Baking soda is effective against bacteria and fungi-causing itchy scalp such as seborrheic dermatitis. It eliminates the germs and dead skin cells on the skin’s surface responsible for irritation, itching, and hair loss. Additionally, it brings the pH level of the scalp back to normal. Baking soda and olive oil are available at most local supermarkets.
Create a paste by combining equal parts baking soda and water and spread the paste over the scalp. After this, wait for 15 to 20 minutes before washing the hair thoroughly with shampoo and conditioner to avoid any residue buildup. Repeat this process twice each week to treat itchy scalp and prevent dandruff.
