Good Sleep Hygiene
Having good sleep hygiene is the simplest home remedy for insomnia. It is the activities and routines a person does around sleeping hours. A person’s ability to get uninterrupted and consistent sleep may improve with healthy sleep hygiene. Among the easiest ways to practice good sleep hygiene is by consistently following a sleep schedule. This way, the body will recognize when it’s time to sleep. It will also make a person fall asleep quickly. Aside from that, creating a relaxing routine around bedtime helps improve sleep. For example, listen to relaxing music or podcasts or practice breathing exercises. It’s also an excellent option to meditate for a few minutes to relax the mind and body.
Using comfortable pillows, mattresses, and blankets also helps improve sleep quality. Sleep hygiene also involves avoiding nicotine, alcohol, and caffeinated drinks during the night time. Instead, take a warm shower or bath for around one and a half before bedtime. In addition, avoid using laptops, screens, TVs, and smartphones one hour before sleeping. It will also help keep the bedroom quiet and dark by using thick curtains, dimmed lights, blinds, eye masks, and earplugs.
