Turmeric
A common spice originating from the Curcuma longa root, turmeric contains active compounds referred to as curcumin, from which it gets most of its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Some of its health benefits include preventing cancer, fighting off depression, protecting from heart disease, improving memory, and combating free radicals. However, it’s best known for lessening inflammation in the body.
In a study involving those with ulcerative colitis, the people who took curcumin alongside their prescription medications showed marked improvements over those who didn’t. It’s also traditionally used for treating skin disorders in India. Therefore, it makes sense that turmeric can also be used to treat ingrown toenails. To use it, make a paste using a mixture of water and a teaspoon of turmeric and gently apply it on the toe with the condition.
Often, turmeric and formulated curcumin are safe whether applied to your skin or taken orally within recommended amounts. However, it’s worth noting that modified products on the market may have harmful effects. Furthermore, taking turmeric in situations such as pregnancy may not be safe. For these reasons, it’s best to consult with your healthcare providers before you to avoid any potential side effects.
