Garlic
Widely used for flavoring, garlic also possesses medicinal qualities that enable it to treat and prevent various diseases and conditions, including atherosclerosis, high cholesterol, heart attack, and hypertension, to name a few. It’s also an effective antibiotic, with the diallyl sulfide compound that it contains being found to be more potent in combating specific bacterium like Campylobacter, which is a common trigger for intestinal infections.
Studies have also found that those who consumed raw garlic twice a week had lower lung cancer risks. Research also suggests that garlic’s organo-sulfur compound may be effective in combating glioblastoma cells, which are deadly brain tumors. While more studies are required, the studies have demonstrated efficacy in cancer cell eradication in the brain.
Many have found success in using garlic to treat ingrown toenails, which may be due to the allicin compound that exhibits strong antimicrobial properties that can protect from further damage and infection. It also possesses anti-inflammatory properties, which may help speed recovery. To use it, crush two to three cloves of garlic and carefully apply it around the affected toe. Cover with a clean and sanitary gauze or bandage and leave it overnight.
