Psyllium Husk
Psyllium husk is a dietary supplement that increases fiber intake and aids bowel movement. In Asia, Europe, and North America, psyllium is commonly used as a laxative.
Psyllium aids in stool softening and alleviate the discomfort associated with hemorrhoids. When coupled with water, it swells and provides additional volume, which encourages the intestines to contract and accelerates the movement of stool through the digestive system.
Standard psyllium preparations are provided as dried seed or husk, combined with water as required. It is also available in capsule, pill, and wafer forms. Oral psyllium supplements include powder, granules, tablets, liquid, and wafers, usually taken at most three times daily.
Before usage, the powder and granules must be combined with 8 ounces or 240 milliliters of a beverage such as fruit juice or water. Be careful not to increase fiber intake too rapidly since it may induce gas and stomach cramps. Unless a physician instructs, do not take psyllium for more than one week. Follow the instructions on the container or prescription label carefully and take psyllium supplements precisely as prescribed.
