Many components in witch hazel have significant anti-inflammatory compounds, including gallic acid and tannins. Moreover, It is an astringent, one of the primary characteristics that makes it an effective treatment for hemorrhoids. The astringent qualities of witch hazel diminish swelling in hemorrhoid tissue, resulting in tissue shrinking and alleviation from accompanying discomfort and itching. Use witch hazel directly on hemorrhoids by applying a tiny quantity to a cotton ball and wiping the afflicted region many times each day, particularly after a bowel movement. Alcohol should not be added to witch hazel since this might aggravate and dry up hemorrhoids.
External hemorrhoids may also be treated with 5 to 10 grams of witch hazel leaf or bark cooked undiluted or dissolved in 250 milliliters of water. Lastly, the suppository can apply between 0.1 and 1 gram of leaf and bark one to three times daily.
