Proteolytic Enzymes
The proteolytic enzymes in pineapple, known as bromelain, help to digest protein. These enzymes have medicinal effects for enhancing digestion, increasing the immune system, and lowering inflammation. Pineapple is the sole natural dietary source of bromelain. It has been used for generations as a traditional folk remedy, and in food and medicine.
In a study of gout therapy published in the Iranian Red Crescent Medical Journal, bromelain is included with several other foods. Several physicians and arthritic patients say that bromelain alleviates arthritis symptoms. In research on osteoarthritis, patients were given bromelain pills daily. Within three days, individuals began to report decreased joint discomfort. Moreover, based on 2016 clinical research findings, combining bromelain, trypsin, and rutoside enzymes reduced knee pain and swelling similarly to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs).
On the other hand, in a journal published in the Malaysian Journal of Medicine and Health Sciences, findings showed that pineapple juice is beneficial because it is rich in vitamin C and uric acid can be eliminated from the body through urine. Therefore, either drink an herbal bromelain capsule or drink pineapple juice daily.
