12 Effective Gingivitis Home Remedies You Should Try

Coconut Oil Pulling

Oil pulling or oil swishing therapy is an established procedure in which the practitioner swishes oil inside the mouth to improve oral health. Coconut oil is an option for readily available oil for pulling or swishing. This unique mixture contains lauric acid, which has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects. In addition, it decreases adjuvant procedures in lowering plaque formation and plaque-induced gingivitis.

Due to its absorbable property, it reduces saliva buildup in the mouth and supports dental hygiene. It also reduces bad breath caused by gingivitis. It can also prevent cavities that stem from tooth decay. Coconut oil can also whiten teeth by clearing the stains from their surfaces.

To do coconut oil pull or swish, put one to two teaspoons of fractioned coconut oil into the mouth. Swish the oil inside the mouth for 20 to 30 minutes. Be careful not to let the oil touch the back of the throat. Spit the oil after the time is up and rinse with water. Spit the water and drink a full glass of water to cleanse.

Oil swishing is safe. But swallowing the liquid is not secure, for it contains toxins and bacteria pulled from the mouth tissue.
