Breathe in Steam
Breathing in steam can help clear respiratory and nasal passages when you have flu or cold. While it may not treat the infection, it can effectively help take care of the symptoms, thus making you feel better. Besides having a stuffy nose, steam inhalation can help when you have thick mucus, persistent cough, dry throat, and hoarse voice.
The traditional way of inhaling steam is filling a bowl or basin with boiling water and putting your face over it at about 12 inches or a safe distance that lets you inhale the steam without burning your face. Close your eyes to avoid a severe impact on them. Put a towel over your head to enclose the space, making breathing in the steam easier. Take deep breaths, and refill the bowl with hot water every few minutes if there’s no more steam. Do this for about 15 minutes 2 to 3 times a day.
It’s not recommended for children because of its safety risk. There are also steam inhalers that make steam inhalation safer. However, if you get burnt in the process, and it’s severe, get immediate medical assistance.
