Thyme
Thyme, a known Mediterranean herb, is used in food preparation, medicine, and decoration. It has been used to cure various ailments and problems using its flowers, leaves, and oil. It is commonly used for digestive issues, bronchitis, sore throat, and cough.
In a 2015 meta-analysis of numerous studies, researchers found compelling evidence to support the use of thyme preparations to treat people with cough symptoms. The review’s objective was to thoroughly evaluate the research on herbal treatments for cough, signs of colds, and other upper respiratory tract diseases.
The review determined that A. paniculata, ivy, primrose, and thyme-based treatments, as well as moderate evidence for P. sidoides, were considerably better than placebo at reducing the severity and frequency of participants’ cough symptoms. However, researchers did note that further research is required to demonstrate its overall effectiveness.
A more recent study conducted in 2021 found that people who used a combination of thyme and ivy drops improved their bronchitis problems, cough, and overall quality of life. They also said the drops hadn’t many adverse side effects.
