Probiotics
Probiotics are live yeast and bacteria that benefit the body, especially the digestive system. Probiotics help the body digest food and fight off harmful bacteria in the intestines. Experts may recommend the consumption of probiotics every day to improve the gut’s condition and prevent harmful bacteria from entering the bloodstream.
A study conducted in 2016 shows probiotics’ potential to reduce symptoms related to diverticulitis. Another laboratory study highlights the impressive capabilities of probiotics to reduce inflammation and infection in the large intestines. Patients suffering from abdominal pains and difficulty in defecating can take probiotic supplements. They are available over-the-counter in tablet, capsule, or powder form.
They can also try eating fermented foods that contain probiotics. Foods like miso, kimchi, kefir, and yogurt are some of the safe choices. However, it is better to try eating these foods in small amounts at a time. Since too many probiotics can cause bloating, discomfort, and diarrhea. Also, keep in mind that probiotics are only a supplement, not a medication. So, it is still best to consult a doctor before including it in a patient’s daily diet.
