Thyme
Thyme is a natural expectorant that assists mucus discharge, functions as an antiseptic, and fights respiratory infections. It also effectively relieves coughs and clears nasal congestion. According to one small study of 361 patients with acute bronchitis, the essence of thyme leaves combined with ivy may help reduce coughing and short-term bronchitis.
The flavonoids in the thyme leaves calm the throat muscles used in coughing and reduce inflammation. People can use two tablespoons of crushed thyme leaves and 1 cup of boiling water to prepare thyme tea at home. For 10 minutes, cover the cup, soak the leaves; then strain. Adding a drop of lemon juice to increase its effectiveness is better.
Meanwhile, to treat tonsillitis, gargle a thyme tea or simply take it as a vitamin up to 3 times per day. Thyme essential oil, made from the plant’s leaves, is frequently used as a home treatment for coughing. In a 2018 research on an animal model, inflammation and mucus were reported to be reduced by combining thyme and primula extracts.
