Avoid Smoking
Doctors will give lots of reasons for an individual to stop smoking. One of them is to cut down the frequency of burping. This is because when someone inhales the smoke, they also inhale and swallow the air.
Studies found that smokers were much more likely to have acid reflux and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It is a condition that happens when stomach acid repetitively flows up the esophagus (the tube where food travels through).
Smokers produce less saliva. For this reason, there is an increased acid secretion in the stomach, raising the risk of gastric juices refluxing into the esophagus. In addition, smoking makes stomach acid more severe and detrimental by promoting the transfer of bile salts from the intestines into the stomach. It has also been associated with severe complications of GERD, such as esophageal cancer and Barrett’s Esophagus.
Smoking might be a day-to-day habit that triggers burping. Therefore, it is more sensible to have things like ginger candy, peppermint sticks, and carrots ready to put in the mouth in place of a cigarette.
