Gargling Salt Water
Salt, a natural ingredient, helps relieve the sore throat and helps reduce the inflammation of the lungs as it kills the bacteria inside gradually. Gargling salt water is easy as it only needs warm water and a small amount of salt, yet it produces promising effects. Saltwater reduces and soothes the pain caused by thickened mucus in the throat lining. As the mucus is eliminated from the airway, the respiratory tract widens, putting the cough away and making breathing more comfortable. It also enables enough rest, sound sleep, and normal breathing. Saltwater is also safe for children who are experiencing mild coughs or bronchitis.
Do this: Put one teaspoon of salt into a cup of warm water (not hot as it may hurt the gums, tongue, teeth, and other parts of the mouth). Stir until dissolved. Sip and tilt the head back slowly. Gargle it reaching the back of the throat. Do this for 30 seconds. Swish the water all around the areas of the mouth. Spit the water and repeat the procedure until the whole cup is finished or as often as needed. Rinse the mouth with plain water after gargling.
