Changing Birth Control Methods
For women, UTIs can result from the birth control methods they use. Therefore, changing them can be the easiest way to end chronic bladder infections and UTIs depending on the technique. It may sound strange since many of these birth control methods are in the vagina, not the urethra. However, considering how close they are to a woman’s body, an explosion of harmful bacteria in the vagina can spread quickly and cause infections in nearby areas.
First, there are spermicides. These substances aim to kill any sperm that enters the vagina. The problem is that it is deadly to sperm. First, spermicide might disrupt the health of the vagina by killing good bacteria and changing its pH levels. Second, cervical caps and diaphragms can press down on the urethra. It prevents the complete emptying of the bladder, which increases the chance of an infection starting inside it.
Changing the birth control method to something friendlier to the body can be a big help. If possible, a birth control pill is the most effective choice since it doesn’t affect anything physically in the vagina.
