13 Effective Remedies To Help You Treat Bad Breath At Home

Homemade Mouthwash With Apple Cider Vinegar

Since we’re on the topic of homemade mouthwashes, another recommended remedy to treat and manage halitosis is a mouthwash with apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar, or any vinegar for that matter, contains at least five percent acetic acid. Acetic acid is toxic to germs and bacteria and can quickly eliminate them.

Acetic acid is considered a weak organic substance that exerts a strong effect against microorganisms and bacteria. Acetic acid dissociates the microbial cells, reducing pH levels and destroying the bacteria’s protein and fats, resulting in their elimination. As bacteria don’t flourish in acidic environments, mouthwash spiked with apple cider vinegar can regulate the mouth environment properly.

Medical experts recommend adding two tablespoons of apple cider or white vinegar to one cup of water and mixing the solution. Once the vinegar becomes incorporated, swish the solution inside the mouth for at least 30 seconds before spitting it out. Repeat the steps as needed or until the mouth feels fresh enough, and rinse with water to remove the aftertaste if there’s any. Dentists recommend using mouthwash once or twice daily to promote good oral health and hygiene.
